These were shipped right along with all the other designs but not in the same quantity as a shirt with the turtles on it. The sheer number of different designs was astounding as I remember. Seems they updated the designs constantly to keep the line fresh. I remember quite a few designs based on the turtle action figure variants.
I pulled my shirts from big bundles. I think maybe a dozen shirts, all the same design, folded into a big lump. You had pull hard because of them being all tangled together.
Awesome shirt design! I love how the turtles look like they're cheering for Man Ray as he rises out of the ocean. I think it's awesome that some of the secondary characters were given a chance to shine, and that's something I wasn't aware of.
Was Man Ray not a character in the cartoon, because I have no memory of him for some reason (wasn't an Archie reader). Incidentally, there is a character in Spongebob Squarepants (an arch enemy of the batman-paradoy super heroes: Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy) called Man Ray.
...hope I'm not inciting a lawsuit, just thought I'd mention it ;)

tokka is on the money. At that point Man Ray was already an established character so Murph and I rejected the script because the character was Man Ray/Ray Fillet in look only.
Like the TMNT, Man Ray was named after a famous artist and his first appearance was in the Ralston-Purina TMNT cereal mini-comic series.
Man Ray's name was changed to Ray Fillet because Playmates totally missed the point of the play on words and just could not grasp the concept. We stood firm but eventually Playmates flexed their muscle and we had to acquiesce.
They felt the name Ray Fillet was clever and fun because of the rhyme.
The TMNT Man Ray was way before the Sponge character.
And you have all the right in the world to be, if some one went and changed something I created I'd be really ticked. It's like you being given a name by your parents but then half way through your life they decide they no longer like your name or the company they work with says oh your child can't have that name, after you've been used to it for years. Could you even imagine! lol
Well, of course yours came before Spongebob's Man Ray. I did recognize him from the Ralston Purina comic, but I did not know that was his first appearance. Very cool. Thanks for the info Tokka, and Cowabunga Dude (which I suspect just might be an alias for a Mirage artist...)

The infux of Merch too back in those days was just as overwhelming if not more so than even today.
I'm sure it was impossible to gage just how many of these shirts got mixed in with all the other ones.
Well now i have some new kick-ass vintage shirts to look out for.
