Drug Rap

Honestly, did the rap song in this book help anyone to not do drugs?

"Some kids at the playground say they just smoke pot.
But listen, buddies, you'd better not.
Once potheads want to have a high,
there's lots of poison they might try.
You're not dumb, so don't take dope.
When they pass those joints, be like us. Say "Nope!"

So let's have a pizza with extra cheese.
No anchovies, if you please.
No crack, no smack, no angel dust-
Just the Turtles and you...the kids we trust!"

Now a day's that rap song would strongly encourage drug use. Whoa, those be some bad lyrics.

To be honest even as a kid I wouldn't be caught dead with that book hahaha

LOL! At least the message they're sending is a positive one. Love the lyrics... I think they're cheesier than some of the COOTS stuff.

I remember an anti-drug commercial that used to run on the old WB channel (now CW) back in like the early 90's. This kid was confronted at his locker by another who wanted to sell him pot, and the scene would pause at intervals as the Turtles would advise the viewer what to do in this situation.

The drug-dealer egged the kid on, saying he was chicken and making the sounds and gestures of one (as was the common insult at the time) until the boy retorted "I'm not a chicken; you're a turkey!" Then Donatello said, "he's right, drug dealers are dorks; don't even talk to them!" Then all the turtles shouted, "cowabunga!"

I don't think I would have done drugs even without this commercial (I never heard the turtle anti-drug rap before), but I suppose that for those of us who looked up to the turtles back then, it made resisting drugs rather than doing them cool. Who knows, maybe this type of propaganda really saved some kids from getting messed up. Who knows?

What I do know is that even as a kid, and still today, I was glad to know that someone cared enough to try to keep kids clean. Maybe for some, knowing that someone cares is all they need...

That PSA is EPIC!!!

The book I always found cheesy and embarrassing, so I can't claim to ever owning it. ^_^

Ugh....

Where Shredder and Krang the Drug Pushes in that book? ;).. Actually, I think it would explain alot about Bebop and Rocksteady's lack of smarts ;)..

Nice to see a message getting out, but I don't think even a kid would have taken that seriously then..

That "turkey" PSA is one of the best ever made. I still enjoy watching it on my original VHS copy of the first TMNT movie, along with the classic Pizza Hut commercial. Always made me want to play right field. :p
