Armaggon Would Love This

Evidence that millions of tons of methane gas is being released into the atmosphere from beneath the Arctic seabed has been discovered by scientists.

The sea is foaming with gas bubbling up through "methane chimneys" rising from the sea floor. The sub-sea layer of permafrost, which has acted like a "lid" to prevent the gas from escaping, has melted away to allow methane to rise from underground deposits formed before the last ice age.

Methane is about 20 times more powerful as a greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide and scientists fear that its release could accelerate global warming leading to further permafrost melting and the release of yet more methane. Earth is doomed.

This mutant shark was created by Pete and submitted to Playmates Toys as a possible addition to the TMNT toy line. They soundly rejected it. Years later, Murph salvaged the design and used it as the look for his character Armaggon, a shark monster he had created for the Archie Adventure series. A copy of Pete's original design was inked for this blog post.

Needless to say, this shark mutant was a huge hit with the fans and would have made a most radical action figure.

Ooooh... so this must be why Pete gets creator credit for Armaggon in the fine print of the Archie books even though Murph developed and created everything else about him. Still one of my all-time favorite TMNT characters.

I'm digging this design. It's so primal looking.

Methane is bad, bad news. Looks like the cows aren't the only ones contributing to the build up.

I love it, and yes it should have been made into an action figure and still should be made into one.
In my younger days I used to hound playmates every month with letters buggin them to make such and such a character or characters lol.
thanks for sharing!

-->> ..was half awake last night.

Repairing my playstation, workin on commison, and manic as f6ck. The Nightline was on..was prepping for a long early morning bike ride and that's all i wanted to do was just leave

i barely recall it, the report cuz i was mostly listening and working at the same time.

The methane released from the cattle is natural, but is causing major problems with the greenhouse effect.

But this is also due to their diet.

Milk cows in particular were the focus of the portion of the report i saw. The report went on to a ' healthier ' feed they were developing to feed the animals to help reduce the effect of the gas the cattle were releasing.

Reports i recall from the past year involving animals being fed special feed to 'fatten' them up for a quicker meat when they go to slaughter ..and feed that helps increase milk output.

Cattle waste may result in some disturbing methane emission. But it's not as disturbing as what man has helped to create with these effects.

And it would appear to me ..that man is also in part to blame with the cattle issue if they are feeding them ' unhealthy ' things.

The bottom-line..

..i'm gonna continue to find out how i can become fully vegatarian all around. I have got to try ..

I cannot deal with this anymore.

My conscience can't take it.

Just do it dave it's not that hard.
I've had to become a vegetarian for health issues and they make all kinds of things that are fun to eat.

-->> How do you budget and plan out your diet.

I don't make allot of money as you know. In fact i've been living off can vegtables, beans and cereals mostly past 3 months.

The few f7cking ' SOY BASED ' products i've purchased are rather pricey and i use em sparingly. I've never understood the vegatarian and organic movements.

Organic claims that it is better for the environment and healthier..

but they refuse to aknowledge the poor and lower income people. Go into any Whole foods and you know what i'm talking about.

It bothers me from what i see in southern Colorado. i know so many lower income people that need help and care about the environment as the rich people and middle class but they have so little help in these regards. It's not just people in wealthier sectors that give a f8ck about the state of the world.

Where the f8ck did that mentality come from anyway ?!

Then there is the basic mentality that is universal around here..

throw it all away . .throw everything away .. on the ground.. who cares.

That's why as often as i can ..i try to pick up litter on the ground and throw it away in the garbage can, or if i can .. i try to place it in with my own recycles or like the refuse from construction i try to reuse it.

Whatever.. 'vegetarian' .. that's been my biggest problem, people force it down my throats. I agree it's overall better for my mind, health, well being, and actually in many ways the environment.

But when i come at them for advice..

they got very little to tell me.

Or they'll like be.. " O i'm a vegatrian ..but i eat fish .. i am a vegatarian but i drink milk. "

That all confuses me.

This will also really mean i gotta cut out Milk product. I do drink so much of that .. Nothing animal relate tho'. I need to get on soy milk.

.. that's how hardcore i need to go.

Nothing involving animals.

Think that's the right way to do this.

Guy in California gave me some Tofu ideas.. and said that it can be made into ' ANYTHING ' to substitute for meat. And he said Tofu is not that expensive.

I think i need to start there.

I can't have dairy products as they make me very sick.
Products that have been bleached like white breads and noodles are also not my friend so I have to pay close attention to what I'm buying.
I buy allot of my stuff @ Wal-Mart which as you know Dave I work there now.
And no we don't get a disscount on food which I think is total bull.
I still get food stamps because of not being totally 100% better and my job being only part time.
It sure helps allot, I'm suprised you don't have them with the problems you claim to have all the time.
It would seem if you've been put away for having issues or whatever that the state would try to help you out.
Perhaps though I've just been lucky and got a great caseworker.
But anyway that's mostly how I afford it every month.

-->> .it's a long story ,Vaughn. Noone needs to hear it.

My therapist doubles as an advocate for me.. however i try handle as much of my own financial issues as much as i can.

However yeh, there is a certain amount of assistance i am allotted for rent, living expenses , health care. This has been something that i've had to have since i was a kid as the medical problems and visits to so many medical facilities and the bills piled up.

.. however i am left to my own devices in so many other things. And things like the vegatetian issue is a real struggle cuz i simply don't know how to make it work.

Guess that is part of life with this sh7t in my head .. and the fact that i am trying to survive as independent as i can without assistance from ' The Hospital ' or some psych ward or whatever.

This is really cool! Sometimes I wonder about the toy companies and who approves what actually ends up getting produced. I mean, we didn't get a mutant shark, but we got "Olympic Powerliftin' Donatello"? Sheesh! Even as a kid, I thought olympic Ninja Turtles were lame! You'd think a focus group woulda' told the executives the same thing!

I love Armaggon. It's funny, just yesterday I was posting at the ninja turtle's forums in a thread called "toys you wish were made" and Armaggon was my main want.

I even sculpted one in the old toy line style, it's not the best but it'll do:
http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/showthread.php?t=24887

(Ignore the first photo you see, that was my initial attempt and I worked on it until it got better.)

And Tokka: I've been vegetarian for 2 years now. Yeah not that long, but I was a pretty big meat eater all my life (mostly the junky fast food kind). I went vegetarian on short notice for, believe it or not, a school project (philosophy class). We only had to do it for something like 2 weeks but I never went back. I often say it's the easiest life changing thing I've ever done. I don't even miss meat, but if I did there's some fake meat products that taste exactly the same and are much much healthier.

Let's all help tokka out by listing some of our favorites.
Morningstar Farms products are great. Their Grillers have that classic burger flavor and get their veggie dogs too! Yummy. Morningstar Farms products available at your local Wal-Mart Supercenter Store.

..Thank you.

i did find a 2 pack that has 2 Boca Chick'n meatless sandwiches that you microwave for a buck. They are pretty damm good.

I believe Armaggon's favourite foods are Canadian Bacon, Mashed Turtle Chum, Other Sharks ( carniverous cannibal ), Shredder Beans, and Soylent Green.

( Paul your Armaggon is f6cking rad.. i wouldn't post censored bad words on T-drome if it wasn't )..

Ectopaul said...

Yeah Wal-Mart has some decent meatless products. Morningstar's corndogs are insane. They look/feel just like the real thing but they actually taste better and are fairly healthy for you. I like to get the fake crumbled meat and use it for things like vegetarian chili and pasta sauces.

Reading about methane on Murph's blog today (http://the-5th-turtle.blogspot.com/2008/09/fritter-and-waste.html)... and then read this:
"through my many years hiding behind the façade of Dean Clarrain".
Wait. WHAT? One of the most notable writers of my childhood was a pseudonym unknown to me?!
I need to read between the lines more, I guess?

Love those Morningstar corndogs! The fake crumbled meat makes great sloppy joes too.

Great Armaggon sculpt! Paint that sucker up.

Morningstar is the best I live by that stuff!
The veggie chicken patty's are soooooo good Dave you'd never know that it wasn't chicken.

-->> .. agreed..

and there is no reason or need to be ingesting meat.

The challenge remains.. wish me luck. I am imperfect in all my decisions.

But i hope i can within' this make some better ones.

Soylent Green is people.

-->> Went ahead and got some ' Morning Star ' meal starter sh7t.

I the cost factor of the 12 oz. was almost the same as pound of ground beef.

Made some basic hard shell - tacos tonight with sliced tomato, onion, pepper, salsa and hot sauce.

Except with Meal Starter as substitute for the meat.

Pretty damm good.

It's gonna take allot of effort for me to focus my budget in getting meatless foods. So damm hard. God i hope i can do this.

I also need to stop making fun of that Armaggon - Armagoon and maybe reach out to the evil, ol' shark.

In fact i'll put in a call to the Morning Star people .. and i'll see if they offer a 'Soylent Green' alternative for him so he can continue to enjoy the flavour of people but the S.G. would be M S G free and made from meatless persons.

So what tokka, you are not supporting the torture and death of sentient beings for the profits of a cruel industrial complex. Meat is gross and the people who push it are selfish and insensitive. Please go here and read : http://michaelbluejay.com/veg/why.html

I commend your efforts and will be hoping you leave meat behind forever.

333 :"So what tokka, you are not supporting the torture and death of sentient beings for the profits of a cruel industrial complex."

-->> :(

.. i don't know if i've ever wanted to.

This decision has been a long time coming and again i'm not convinced it'll be easy.

For things to go better into a no-cruelty zone and practice, more alternatives need to be available.

Like so many anymore .. i am in support of my pocket-book .. i didn't ever really make allot of money anyway, and i guess it's a mixed blessing i don't have a kid to support ( then again it's hard enough to take care of myself ).
I'm relegated to a small section in the freezer area at the Wal-mart grocery. And yet the meat department is this massive thing with selections that stretch all the way back to the end of the store.

Hmm.. something is amiss .. something ain' right. and it hasn't been for along time.

I don't see companies like Whole Foods even really giving a f7ck about people like me.. they seem ' CATER ' to a certain income bracket, maybe that's why when i go there i'm able to get so very little or just leave the place altogether.

Something just seems a little off with that too.

I don't know what the answers are, but i gotta do something and i gotta start somewhere .. and i gotta be as serious as i ever have tried to be about this.

Now more than ever.

Meat is gross and the people who push it are selfish and insensitive. Please go here and read : http://michaelbluejay.com/veg/why.html"

..i 'll check it out.

I saw the old Bea Aurther PETA / KFC poultry video ..

that one alone is enough to make me want to smash a baseball bat into my head. Such atrocities from my FORMER employer. :(

My god. I don't need to see ' FAST FOOD NATION' to know how frightening , how big a problem , and how far back all this sh6t goes.

However ...being evil.. ::

i do fully support the ban on souless, meatless, and heartless leaders that have helped forge the way on the destructive path we are on now ..and to have them shipped to the Soylent Green factory to be turned into whafers to be eaten by Armaggon.

It's pushy people like that, that tick me off.
People will do what they want when they want.
No amount of preaching and finger pointing is going to make them change their minds, you have to help them to understand, not pressure and lecture them into it.

And I agree Tokka, if I didn't have the help that I do I would not be able to aford the diet that I'm supposed to be on for my health problems.
They want us to eat healthy and stop the killing of animals for food but they sure don't make it any easier by jacking the price up by twice the cost of what a real chicken patty costs.
Seems pretty silly in all honesty when vegetables are more plentiful than animals are to be charging such prices for vegetable based foods.
Would make one think they are either being bullied into it or know that people have to live off this stuff so they screw us even more than our empty pockets already are by doing this.
Whatever it may be it's not right that people who have health problems or those who want to eat well have to pay an arm and a leg just to eat.

~ tOkKa said...

-->> ..might also be because the market for BEEF/meats or whatever.. is larger and so the Vegetarian and Organics markets are squeezed out and just to turn profit they have to raise the price. Soy Joy, Horizon Organic Dairies, Boca .. ect. .. The prices have never encouraged me ..even before the financial incidents of the past few years to go ' GREEN ' with my diet.

Maybe it's also ' PAYING FOR THE NAME ' .. just as you ' PAY FOR THE CONVENIENCE' like say shopping at 7-11 ..the prices are high cuz part of the cost factor is tallied by things like overhead and again the convenience of having a little store with the basics open 24 / 7.

When buying a name brand, while there are exceptions and variables.. you are paying more for the name brands allot of the time from 'supposed' trusted and well established companies. And it's all just enough to make anyone go insane.

Put to get back to the point

:: like 333's linked example. It is much more wasteful and destructive raising just really a small number of cattle to feed X number of people and it takes allot of land and resources than feeding people thru' means of vegetation.

I dunno .. i STILL feel so discouraged.. ..but i gotta do this.

On an up note, on the news this morning they reported that farmers markets' and such .. ( a much better and smarter alternative to the produce section of the supermarkets and stuff ) are starting to implement technology and devices to allow poor people on food stamps to swipe their cards so they can purchase things at the farmers market. This was a problem before when the markets could only deal in cash and the less fortunate could not get anything because they had no means to pay.

Small step .. but it's a small step in the right direction.
