The Buglys

Here are some characters I created for a kid's meal promotion back in 1999. This is a catalog page featuring the Buglys. I was asked to create
the characters first and then the program was developed around them. I provided the sculptural input drawings also. They are 4" tall and include the groovy 60's ladybug in high heels, grasshopper basketball player, tea sipping honey bee and sleepy snail with his teddy bear and bunny slippers. Collect them all!

These were sold to single location and small, local chain restaurants. So I can't say exactly where.

Very cool! I love how their body parts are interchangeable. I remember when McDonald's had toys that were like that. I think they resembled sea monsters, but my memory's a bit fuzzy.

You mean for the cover tokka? I use the Kevin Eastman method taught to me by the master way back in the mid 80's!! I do everything small. This way I see the entire picture better. Then you go to the nearest copier ( photoshop now ) and enlarge them to work from. I usually scribble 9 comic page layouts on one piece of copy paper. Works really good for me. This cover is the same layout that Jack "The King" Kirby has used numerous times for some of my all-time favorite Marvel comic covers!!

WOW !!

(( .. i also meant that they are really cool.. ))

So you DO get to at least the cover art for that ish, right ?!

Or is Dario gonna pick up after your layouts ?!

Dario will complete it now. Normally I'd request to ink it but my current workload prohibits me from even entertaining the slightest thought of laying ink to it.

Bummer. Last cover I inked was Tales #38. I am a huge fan of Dario's work!

Murph mentioned something about me penciling the layouts for #52 but we'll decide that as he gets closer to finishing the script.

Oh, and if I can find it I'll post the thumbnail layout design for issue #50 for you. Paul pretty much followed it verbatim.
