Teenage Mutant Ninja Rip Off

Of all the turtle toys out there, I have a real fondness for this 7" tall knock-off figure. Maybe it's because I collect japanese vinyls or Donatello is my favorite turtle, I don't know.
I only have this one that Pete gave me a long time ago.

  1. Wow! Crossed eyes and all.

When a group of us went to Universal CityWalk to see the opening of "TMNT", we went into one of the many shops there and found that THEY were selling "rip offs"-- I'd just seen those packages at Mikey's where Wes was talking about these ones he'd seen in N.Y. The box held I think a Raph as well as The Thing, Spiderman, Superman, and someone else.

I guess it says a LOT if bootlegs exist, eh?

That is actually rather cute. Crossed eyes and all.

  2. I love knock-offs. And yes, you could build a pretty big collection of just bootleg figures if you wanted.
Some are just like the originals but cheaper quality, while others are totally different sculpts and have a charm all their own like the Donatello pictured.

  3. BOOTLEGS! Yeah!

I know a couple collectors who take the TMNT bootlegs quite seriously and as a result have amazing collections of them. I laugh at the thought of some of them going, "Noooo!" to the pictures Dan posted on the official site on Friday. ;D

A recent trip to China Town found me a Super True Hero Turtles toy truck and a fake Rubik's cube that is sealed to a card featuring horribly pixelated video game cover art. Thus the Rubik's cube is rated Teen and "Plays with up to 4 Players!" I reluctantly passed on the truck, but I did bring home the Rubik's cube. :)

Most bootlegs are pretty awesome in their own special way.

  6. Oh, it was very hard leaving China Town without that truck. But ultimately, the complete lack of surface area to keep such a large truck made my decision for me. Alas..
